BOOK REVIEW
A Day to Die For Graham Ratcliffe 9781845966386 Published by Mainstream Publishing
Into Thin Air told the story of the fatal events of May 1996 on Mount Everest, when eight climbers died, but Graham Ratcliffe, who was on the mountain on that terrible night, has felt that the full story has yet to be told. Based on his own e memories, and a quest to uncover the truth, he now presents important new information that had not previously been made public.
This is partially an effort to assuage his own guilt, a feeling that he should have done more to help those in trouble on the mountain instead of spending the night sheltering in his tent whilst others died. But it is also the result of a determination to expose the truth of what happened, why group leaders ignored weather warnings, and why more severe warnings were not issued. What he has discovered makes for devastating, and enthralling reading.
