2026 – Kazakhstan Action Asia 3 Day Ultra Marathon

the territory of kazakhstan has historically been inhabited by turkic nomads. you will explore valleys, grass Steppes and canyons for a real experience.

About This Event

Experience the ultimate adventure in Central Asia trail running as the annual Kazakhstan Ultra Marathon Stage Race organized by Action Asia Events returns for another spectacular season. Nestled deep within the majestic Tien Shan mountain range, this extreme 3-day endurance challenge hiking trip offers epic views as marathon and trail runners navigate vast valleys, rolling grass steppes, and dramatic canyons for a raw, unforgettable backcountry experience.

Kazakhstan is a vast nation that boasts a rich cultural history, breathtaking wilderness landscapes, friendly people, and countless sights to explore, particularly around the vibrant host region of Almaty. Positioned strategically between Europe and Asia, the sheer size of Kazakhstan’s territory makes the country the ninth-largest in the world, providing the perfect playground for world-class, multi-day mountain marathons.

Accommodation

Please email payment@actionasiaevents.com with your preferred person(s) who you would like to share both the yurt and hotel with as most yurts are large and hold 4 – 6 people (Central Asian carpet style where you need to bring a sleeping bag and blow up pillow (or a few extra shirts for pillow). Hotel accommodation last day in Almaty will be 2 per room unless special request to purchase single room if available as peak season due to best weather of year.

Almaty Official Hotel: Renion Park Hotel Almaty
Location: 66 Kunaev Street, Medeu District, Almaty, 050004, Kazakhstan

What’s NOT included

note

FOOD AT CAMP – Meals are typical Kazakhstan fried noodle with meat / patatoes or rice meat / vegetarian options. Everyone quite happy previously with food choices as we always hire extra experienced cooks for group. Hot water will be available. Think last year only tea available so might recommend little coffee pouches if you crave or drink extra tea!

Very basic water setup to ‘rinse’ yourself as wouldn’t call it a shower, however you can splash yourself clean after each day at yurt camp and dry yourself with a small towel. Toilets are at camp, but again basic as all built especially for event only in the middle of a steppe. No electricity so bring a solar charger or batteries for yurt camp. Leave your computers at home and don’t expect to charge anything so turn off your phone when you don’t need unless you have powerbanks.

Telephone reception terrible. Better so you can socialize and not do business. It is possible to purchase phone cards in Almaty, but issue is different telcos have stronger signals in city while others in some small towns as not many signal towers in countryside.

Since 1998 we have treated certain adventure race events and our 3 day ultra events since 2009 as a real adventure and try not to disclose location and maps until night before as we want people to experience what it feels like to be in the ‘unknown’ to expect the unexpected and not know what is around the corner. Life gets quite boring when you know everything and can plan ahead studying the 1 day events we organize as example, benefiting the more experienced elites if anything. For this reason we try to at least organize some real raw adventure events every year like our 3 day ultra marathons where you get on a bus from the main city, head out into a camp in the middle of no where, get the maps of next days course, socialize and go to bed. The course is heavily marked with ribbons and signs every 20meters with plenty of marshals to make it enjoyable. If you don’t like this, then we have the 1 day events for you where all is displayed under the course pages. The feedback is always great and if you have recommendations then please email, but we are quite sure you will love the adventure.
