About This Event
Embark on an unforgettable Himalayan experience in the ‘Land of the Gods and Goddesses’ as the official Nepal Ultra Marathon Stage Race returns for an extraordinary new season. Organized by Action Asia Events, this spectacular 3-day trail running event guides participants through a region rich in cultural history, passing sacred places, ancient temples, pagodas, and stunning stupas.
Runners will enjoy epic views of the towering Himalayas and peaceful surrounding valleys as we explore a completely new, historically significant valley path that Action Asia last visited over 15 years ago. Great news for international competitors: you do not have to worry heavily about acclimatization for this edition! The entire course is designed at a lower elevation, running comfortably between 1,000m and 2,000m in altitude to keep you perfectly in the zone.

- Visa & permits for Nepal (can get upon arrival paid in US$) but recommend getting in your home country and easy to apply online. - (Please try to get visa from home country to avoid lining up at immigration. Trust us on this!!). Takes over 1 hour if your lucky and somebody there to help with machines that sometimes don't work. So please apply for visa before you depart.
- Return flight tickets to Kathmandu, Nepal
- Sleeping bags (Beds with mattress, bed sheets, pillow provided)
- Optional extra night’s accommodation in Nepal. Can book official thru agent.
- Food (lunch & dinner) in villages where the race will take place (Food ok in the local village (Dahl Baht, Fried rice, fried noodle) and easy to order, but does take a while to cook - cash in the local currency). Nightmare for the organizer to arrange as all coming different times and many small restaurants to order at village hotel or small restaurants near.
- Personal evacuation insurance - all overseas events you need this in case life threatening illness or something where helicopter is needed. Please purchase before you leave
- Bringing extra Family, friends, volunteers others who want to come with you - they are treated as a participant in the race and still have to pay the full fee (actually in a way they cost us more as we have to transport them around also)
- CSR – Raising money for Action Asia Sports Academy to support local orphanage in Kathmandu and or education material (books, pens, pencils) for local village schools that can use help in books and school supplies. The Action Asia Sports Academy is open to suggestions as there are a few projects of interest that will be open to discussion amongst participants as always want to give back to the community either for education material, orphanage or other with donations of US$ 50 or up to US$ 300 depending on your generosity (cash easier but can accept digital payment to organizer and can also make donation when entering). All donations are welcome, but not mandatory. Feel free to raise funds yourself. We’re also looking at a way to do more and will discuss this with different organizations for CSR ideas and welcome input.
note
Showers & Toilets are at village hotel.
Electric socket in rooms but need an adapter as some have the two thin hole while others have 3 round holes. Recommend leave your computers at home.
Telephone reception terrible in race village but good in Kathmandu. Better so you can socialize and not do business. It is possible to purchase phone cards in Kathmandu before you leave.
Medical – As this event involves going into the mountains we recommend all participants to have gone to a medical check up before the event to make sure you are physically fit enough to handle this kind of physical challenge.
Since 1998 we have treated certain adventure race events and our 3 day ultra events since 2009 as a real adventure and try not to disclose location and maps until night before as we want people to experience what it feels like to be in the ‘unknown’ to expect the unexpected and not know what is around the corner. Life gets quite boring when you know everything and can plan ahead studying the 1 day events we organize as example, benefiting the more experienced elites if anything. For this reason we try to at least organize some real raw adventure events every year like our 3 day ultra marathons where you get on a bus from the main city, head out into a village in the middle of no where, get the maps of next days course, socialize and go to bed. The course is heavily marked with ribbons and signs every 20meters with plenty of marshals to make it enjoyable. If you don’t like this past Action Asia tradition, then we have the 1 day events for you where all is displayed under the course pages. The feedback is always great and if you have recommendations then please email, but we are quite sure you will love the adventure.
Past Action Asia videos for reference and a sneak preview
nepal 3 day stage race distances & elevation
New course that is different in area we did event almost 15 year ago with changes in new area for all of you regulars who have done our past Nepal AA events – within 5 hours north of Kathmandu with easier hills than last 3 editions as lower in elevation going thru villages, farmland with sweeping majestic Himalayan views.
Course made up of mostly single track technical trails together with dirt jeep track roads thru mountain villages with a mixture of stunning mountain backdrops. Location kept confidential until night before each day where maps are given out for the next day too keep with the Action Asia tradition of adventure and expecting the unexpected.
Course marking every 50m with ribbons and signs and marshals on key locations.
Category distance:
Ultra marathon category (total 100 km over 3 days):
Day 1 – 42km – 2200m+
Day 2 – 40km – 2000m+
Day 3 – 20km – 974m+
Explorer category – good for hiking (total 60 km over 3 days):
Day 1 – 22km – 1300m+
Day 2 – 21km – 1200m+
Day 3 – 20km – 974m+
time limit :
There will be a cut-off near the end of the day to ensure all get in before dark. If concerned then recommend shortest category if you are not very fit as plenty of time to hike this category. Usually 5 – 10 hours for a 40km day and 3-7 hours for 20km day depending on your level of fitness and how many times you stop to take photos. (This 2026 edition will be going slightly lower in elevation compared to previous editions so would not worry as much about acclimatization).
