Choo - No Pain No Gain - Singapore Action Asia

Esmond Choo story leading up to the MSIG Singapore Action Asia 50

I’ve been running since July 2012. I was diagnosed with high cholesterol which requires medication therefore I told the doctor to give me three months and review again.

When I started running the most I could run was 3km with a slow pace. Gradually I became addicted to running and I joined races to motivate me further. From there onwards, I started using races to motivate myself to train harder and harder.

At the beginning it was tough, because I suffered from blisters and ankle pain. Believe it or not, the slogan "No Pain No Gain" actually works. I rested the most 2 days and continued to run and gradually the pain subsides.

Till date, I have done Ultra and the longest distance was 192km, the fastest and happiest I ever achieved my PB was my recent Sundown Full Marathon which I completed in 3hr 54mins (My FM PB - Personal Best).

At times, you feel lazy to run but I always post my training distance on FB to commit and re-motivate myself that I have to complete since I posted. That's my way of motivation. On the other hand, I registered races to push myself to train if not I may suffer during the race.

Not only running, I also do Tabata workouts (stationary exercises with intervals) average twice a week to build my core muscles and try building a six pack. Tabata is effective and it does not take up much time and can do at home if I come back late from work.

To be a good runner, you need to watch out on your diet, persistent in your routine running, do tempo and interval running to help build your cardio recovery.
I always try to re-motivate myself by talking with running buddies and train together. Facebook medium plays an important role to get inspiration from runners post and comments.

Last, but not least, it doesn't matter how far or how fast you can run, as long you control your mind to start and set a target a decent distance to run. Telling yourself that this distance is definitely worthwhile to make you fitter, healthier and look better. Always think what motivates yourself to inspire others which will regenerate the energy inside you to push you further to achieve your running goal.

Thanks to everyone whom have inspired me and the encouragement is inspirational.

All the best to Esmond at the MSIG Singapore Action Asia 50
