Running power with Jason Foo: Leading up to MSIG Singapore Action Asia 50
I run to inspire myself and others.
I run because I regained the passion for doing so having stayed away from running for 21 years up until 2012.
I am, if I may say so myself just an above average runner in the little red dot where I call home - Singapore.
I am still coping with consistencies when it comes to races. I go into a race never aiming for a podium finish, (Top 10) but as with ultra-races sometimes the small number of participants presents an opportunity that had not been planned for (especially on events that are loop based, and rankings are based on distance covered within the given Cut-Off Time).
When a situation such as this arises, then I am inspired to do my best to finish as high as I can.
As for training, I don't really do so (not as serious as most out there). I just go out whenever I can in the evenings in my neighborhood to run, whatever the distance, and at whatever pace I feel like, and if I'm in the mood.
I also do not have a fixed schedule for my runs.
I prefer to not stick to the same route each time. I get bored easily if there is no variation in the route I'm running.
Long runs are only limited to Sunday if I am able to be excused from my family, but even then these are far and few in between, and usually only occur from late May or June onwards when there's about an average of one ultra-event per month till the end of the calendar year.
Otherwise, I will go on a "Park Tor" (dating) run with my dear wife of 19 years. These runs are short (never exceeding 8k) and are done at a very slow pace. I just enjoy her company and appreciate that she loves running too, having just started not too long ago.
One thing she will not do is to run an official mass event.
Running for her is purely for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Lastly, how long more will I continue to run? I haven't a clue. I'll just do so till the mood is no longer there, or till my legs can't carry me no-more !
But not to worry, I have something that I did not have all those years ago to keep me running happy ... Facebook, specifically the many, many runners that are my friends!
