Extreme to the snow for Haugsnes as Asian Skyrunning Champ last this year
Eirik Haugsnes (Inov8) from Norway was the combined overall champion in 2015 of the MSIG Lantau VK and MSIG Lantau 50 and looking forward again to the tough 2 courses in Hong Kong.
Eirik how has your season gone so far?
I started my season with the fantastic Zegama - Aizkorri Alpine Marathon in the Basque country (Northern Spain), then I did the Marathon Mont Blanc in Chamonix. Results were ok in both but not as good as hoped 16th in Zegama and 19th in Mont Blanc.
Then I turned my focus to the new Skyrunning extreme serie and did both Tromsø Skyrace in August and Glen Coe Skyline in September, the result from those races gave me a nice 7th place overall in the Skyrunning extreme world series.
I have also managed to do some local races this summer and earned myself not less than five new course records around here. It is always fun to race a bit on home ground!
My next challenge will be the IAU World Trail Championship in Portugal the 29th October, where I will race for my home country Norway. Representing you home country is always an honor.
Then Hong Kong?
Then I will end my season with the MSIG Double as last year. The VK and the 50K is of course a big yes. Perfect ending to a long season!
Will be cold we’re guessing in November for your training?
Normally a combination of easy running outside in the snow, treadmill intervals and some XC-ski or ski mountaineering if enough snow.
Here in November you need to where at least two layers of clothes and special shoes for winter running (with spikes). Finnsnes, were I live, is far north in Norway (69 degrees north).
See you all in Hong Kong.
