Winner of UTMB 2016 Ludovic Pommeret on Hong Kong
The French are coming! Awesome to hear Frenchman Ludovic Pommeret will be at the start line of this years Skyrunning Asian Championship – MSIG Lantau50 and with his recent win in Chamonix at UTMB he will add to the already impressive lineup of world class elites mixed with some of the best in Asia.
Michael Maddess talked to Ludovic recently and asked for some secret tricks to reveal and was interesting what motivates the UTMB winner.
Any role models or you learnt the hard way?
“I started to train in a structural way from last year. So I receive all "advice" from my coach. Before that I was more in a free way, go for training in mountain.”
How hard can you push yourself?
“Now I train to try to reach a higher level and currently it's working :-) That's my motivation. I know that it's soon the end for me so I try to do the best for the finish :o)”
There must be others also that inspire you?
“Of course some runners inspire me like Dawa Sherpa, or I admire some top runners like Killian Jornet, but we are not living on the same earth I think.... And for Killian I'm still believing that he’s not a real human :o).
The family and their expectation is good, they motivate me as well ! They believe on me and they support me !”
Which area of France are you from?
“I was born in France in Grenoble, I'm married and have 2 daughters (12 and 15). We are currently living in France, close to Geneva (Switzerland).”
In between all your training what do you do in the daytime?
“I'm a computer science engineer, and I'm working for the Swiss sky control.”
You must have been running for a long time we are guessing?
“I'm running for several years now, I start around 15 years ago.”
What do you like about running on the trails?
“I like trail running to meet people on the race, but as well to be in the mountains : most of the time, it's beautiful and quiet. I like to do race in foreign country, it's a good way to travel : discover the country and other racers that have different culture like my future trip to Hong Kong”.
What are you proud of recently as obviously we’re guessing UTMB?
“I won lot of French courses, but maybe you don't know them except maybe the Maxi-race this year and the UTMB this year as well. I did 2 times as well the Diagonale Des Fous in Reunion Island, (2009 and 2014) and I finished at the 2nd place. I finish 5th at the world championship last year and I will run again the world championship end of October this year.”
In Asia any?
“For Asia I ran 2 times in Japan, and I won the Kanna trail last year and the Hastesune Cup in 2010. I won as well in 2011 the Oxfam trail walker mix team and hoping again for a good result at the Asian Skyrunning Championship MSIG race on Lantau in December.”
We wish Ludovic all the best for the remaining of his trail running season and everyone will be excited to meet him in Hong Kong at the MSIG Lantau 50 – Asian Skyrunning Championship…..Stay tuned for more on Pommeret.
