Guo Wan-ting: run with the spirit of trail running into natural scenes of Taiwan

 “By developing trail running, enhancing the atmosphere, gathering the strength as well as running into Taiwan’s mountains and forests with the spirit of trail running, we can get much more closer to mother nature.”

1.     請問在準備兩場賽事「2016 NISSAN 動感亞洲越野賽台灣站」和「2016 MSIG 台灣動感亞洲50 」有何不同之處?

我想兩場比賽一個是短程,一個是長程距離,當然準備也不同。17公里賽程可以穩定配速持續競速前進,但50公里越野賽,在體能配置上更是不一樣,也是一個需要毅力與耐力的考驗。準備期一定要穩定配速然後慢慢跑,增加自己的越野體能,最重要的是進山練習,熟悉山野路況。原則上這兩場比賽只差在距離,若熟知各地形越野跑技巧,就不會有太大的問題。

Are there any differences when preparing for 2016 NISSAN Action Asia X-Trail TAIWAN and 2015 MSIG TAIWAN Action Asia 50?

I think these two races need different preparation since the distances of the courses are not the same. When I do the 17km race I can run in my own pace with stable speed. But running 50km needs to set different paces for the race and to raise my endurance. During the preparation, I usually set a stable pace and develop my trail running ability step by step. The most important thing is practicing in mountain and getting familiar with the trails. Thus there won’t be too much trouble if I have developed certain trail running skills for different trails.

           

2.     對於首次參加「2016 NISSAN 動感亞洲越野賽台灣站」的你,有沒有給自己設立什麼目標?

過去兩三年前的我參賽一定會給自己設立目標,達成了也非常有成就感,算是給自己一個好的成績單。但今年首次參加「2016 NISSAN 動感亞洲越野賽台灣站」賽事,我不會想很多。我只想要享受山林奔馳的速度感和欣賞台灣貓空的美麗,一切順利平安到達終點,對我來說更是參加越野賽比設立心中的目標更有意義。

Have you set any goal for your first race in 2016 NISSAN Action Asia X-Trail TAIWAN?

I set goals for every race in the past 2 to 3 years and gained a lot of sense of achievement. Since this is my first time participated in 2016 NISSAN Action Asia X-Trail TAIWAN, I won’t push myself too hard. I would rather pay more attention to the beautiful scenes of the Taiwan Maokong along the course and the enjoyment of racing in the forest. Enjoying the fun during the race and finishing it safely are more important than setting goals.

 

3.     是什麼激勵你開始越野跑呢?有啟蒙教練嗎?

起初參加越野跑社團,看到每一位朋友都可以在山林裡活潑自在開心微笑,甚至能跑在山徑、土路、泥濘和石頭路上。一群人經過艱難的上下陡坡後,終於登頂回頭俯瞰一片森林草地甚至風景,那股氣氛凝聚了大家的力量,然後彼此分享越野跑的樂趣,這是每一次吸引我激勵我繼續越野跑的動力。我們會互相分享交流對於越野跑的技巧等等,這些熱情的朋友都是我的啟蒙教練!

What is your inspiration of starting trail running? Do you have any coach?

At first I joined a trail running club, within which I witnessed the happiness and free of every single friend when they are in the forest, even in the trails of mountain, mud, and stone. After they came across the steep climbing, we enjoyed the view on the mountaintop, and at the same time we shared our thoughts and fun along the trail. These experiences are my motivation of keeping running. When we share our trail running skills, we became each other’s coach.

 

4.     你堅持了越野跑多久?它對你的生活帶來了什麼改變嗎?你是如何平衡生活、工作和跑步?

越野跑的3年給我的生活帶來了幸福,美好,快樂,也增加了我的活動能力還有腦力。而我是如何平衡生活、工作和跑步的呢?原則上只要我想的,就會去做,例如:我今天下班後想去七星山越野跑,我就會去做,這就是很平常的事情。下班後就是自己的時間,可以練習,只要我想就要去做,對我來說運動是目前生活重要的一部分,當然我也不是每天下班就會去越野跑喔!我會分配時間,日期與自己的體能狀況做其他的運動唷!

How long have you been doing trail running? What changes have been brought into your life? How could you balance your life, work and running?

The three-year trail running has brought nothing but happiness to my life. And of course my body became stronger at the same time. In terms of balancing the three, I am one of those who act right after decision made. For example, if I suddenly wanted to run the Qixing Mountain after work, I would do it right away. That’s not rare for me. I could take good advantage of my time after work. I do as much practices as I want. Doing sports has been an important part of my life. Even though I don’t run every day, I will arrange other kinds of sports according to my own condition.

 

5.     身為年輕一代的越野跑手,請問你對台灣越野跑的發展有任何期許和願景嗎?

願能發展台灣越野跑風氣,集合越野跑的氣氛,凝聚一股越野力量,跑入台灣各縣市山林,更貼近大自然。

As a trail runner of young generation, do you have any expectation of the future Taiwan trail running?

By developing the trail running, enhancing the atmosphere, gathering the strength as well as running into Taiwan’s mountains and forests with the spirit of trail running, we can get much more closer to mother nature.

 

Best of luck at both Nissan Action Asia X-Trail Taiwan race and the November MSIG Taiwan Action Asia50 where Guo Wan-ting will try her best again after grabbing the top of the podium in 2015 at the Shihmen Reservoir 50km event.
