Action Asia returns to Roof of Thailand
with Thailand Action Asia 50
THAILAND, February 8, 2019 – With high anticipation, the second edition of Thailand Action Asia 50 will be returning on February 17, 2019 in Doi Inthanon National Park near Chiang Mai. Doi Inthanon, Thailand’s highest mountain which is also called “The Roof of Thailand”.
Action Asia Events, the first and only trail running organization allowed to hold charity event in Doi Inthanon National Park for 2 consecutive editions. In order to encourage different types of runners to experience the breathtaking scenery of orchid and coffee plantations and Thai tribe culture in Hmong and Karen village area, three distances included 15km, 31km and 54km will be offered.
Being one of the officially sanctioned Skyrunning events and UTMB qualifying races in Thailand, the longest 54km race course will feature a total elevation gain of over 3,139m with over 3,125m elevation loss with the finisher receiving 2 ITRA Endurance Points. The 31km course has 1860m elevation gain & 1860m elevation loss will receive 1 ITRA Endurance Point for finishers. The shortest 15km course has 604m elevation gain & 604m elevation loss which is suitable for beginners.
French Hong Kong resident, Pascal Laroumanie, is looking forward to racing his first Thailand Action Asia 50, saying: “I enjoy being of outside especially the nature, and I found running is challenging. It is much more interesting than just walking! The route is attractive because Doi Inthanon is the highest mountain in Thailand and I have never been there before.” Speaking of the post-race plan, he said: “I would like to enjoy Thai food, massage and visit the country after the race.” He also recommended beginners should bring enough water and save energy for not being extremely exhausted. “I’ll try my best to finish the Thailand Action Asia 50!”
Saranya Kaufman, a local Thai runner and also one of 2017 Thailand Action Asia 50 past participates who would return to the race again. “Doi Inthanon is special because it is the highest place in Thailand. What got me into running is that I like to compete and stay in shape. To me, climbing trails is better than traditional marathons.” For the race expectation, she said: “A famous philosopher once said to never have expectations, that way you’ll never be disappointed. Just go out every time and do your best and leave the results to God.”
Ms Sarima Chindamat, director of the Tourism of Authority of Thailand, Hong Kong, was pleased to support the trail running charity event in Thailand, she said “It's an honor to collaborate with Doi Inthanon National Park and Action Asia Events at this challenging event bringing athletes from Hong Kong to experience the beautiful scenery in this natural trail, while giving back to the local community in supporting sustainable tourism.”
