Season opener - CBRE Lantau 2 Peaks

Season opener – CBRE Lantau 2 Peaks to show off Hong Kong

Hong Kong, [October 5, 2023] – Since 2009 the Hong Kong trail running season officially kicks off after the hot long summer with one of the most demanding classic, technical and for many leg burning races on the annual calendar with Action Asia Events organizing the highly anticipated CBRE Lantau 2 Peaks in association with OCA that will take place this Sunday on October 8, 2023. This race marks the first time since the pandemic with officially no restrictions. The exhilarating off-road Lantau event will lead participants to conquer both Lantau Peak (934m) and Sunset Peak (800m+) covering close to 1900m of total elevation gain in just 23km and a shorter 15km category with 854m total elevation providing outdoor enthusiasts and athletes with a unique and unforgettable experience.

The CBRE Lantau 2 Peaks has always been one of Hong Kong's most challenging and exciting trail running races due to the race always staged near the beginning of October with temperatures starting to drop down to around 30c compared to 33-35c over Hong Kong’s hot summer, meaning it’s still very hot outside, you are going to sweat a lot and will need to still intake a lot of fluids.  With temperatures playing such an important part, the event has a reputation for making participants regret not doing enough over the summer months and the trail community will know after the event who has been putting in the kilometers over the hot summer, how much it will take to close the gap over the next month to catch those who do well and a personal marker on where their own personal fitness stands.

One person who has been logging some kilometers over the summer in native Australia, competing in the World trail running championships earlier this year is Vlad Ixel. ‘Yeah, looking forward to arriving in Hong Kong as can’t wait as love this CBRE Lantau 2 Peaks race which pushes the whole field outside their comfort zone as you will definitely not want to push too hard near the start or you will be paying the price” said Ixel a race favorite and previous 2018 winner when he lived in Hong Kong.

Fernette Casipit, a participant in the trail run said, "My friends are very passionate about trail running and see this CBRE Lantau 2 Peaks as a challenge. Inspired by them, I feel that trail running will be my new adventure, helping me improve my overall fitness."

Action Asia Events has always been committed to organizing high-quality and challenging sports events, and the CBRE Lantau 2 Peaks perfectly embodies this commitment.

“CBRE Hong Kong is delighted to be the title sponsor of the long-standing Lantau 2 Peaks race for the third year. We are very proud to continue our commitment to promoting a healthy and active lifestyle among our colleagues, clients and the hiking community in Hong Kong, as well as to support environmental sustainability by contributing to Recovery Alliance’s plastic reduction programmes. I much look forward to seeing our racers at the starting line this Sunday. Good luck to everyone!”, said Mr. Tom Gaffney, Regional Managing Director, CBRE Hong Kong.

Michael Maddess, Race Director, believes that as a leading outdoor fitness planning company in Hong Kong, Action Asia Events deeply believes in the impact of sports on mind and body and hopes to inspire and motivate more people to participate in sports and challenge themselves through this race. “It’s nice to see besides the solo categories, many also joining the teams of 4, teams of 2 categories for a bit more team work as when high up, legs starting to go, it helps with friends or workmates close by give you that needed push or motivation speech when you think your finished, but still have a long way to go as we’ve all been there one time or another”, said Maddess from Action Asia Events.

Experienced participant Louis Montfort states, "I am proud to participate in these races together with my wife Laetitia Montfort (@Womanbeyondmom), who will join the 15-kilometer race. She performs exceptionally well and has brought home trophies. She is someone to look up to in the race and serves as my inspiration. Her motto is to focus on taking one step at a time and to run faster."

As autumn begins, signaling the arrival of a favorable season for running, the CBRE Lantau 2 Peaks serves as the inaugural race of the season. Action Asia Events hopes that participants can embark on an unforgettable outdoor adventure, pushing their limits amidst the captivating natural landscapes of Hong Kong, taking a fresh breath from the past three years of the pandemic and experiencing the return to normalcy.

Ms. Hong, who started trail running with her husband, adds, "I have always participated in trail running races to keep myself physically fit and healthy. Moreover, I enjoy relaxing my mind and body during holidays, and races allow me to experience the joy of running and an opportunity to appreciate the natural environment."

Ms. Huang, a participant, mentions that her primary motivation for joining the race is the scenic route. She says, "It's a great opportunity to challenge myself while enjoying such unique scenery." She also expresses that the beauty of the surroundings acts as a significant driving force for her.

The Lantau 2 Peaks could not have happened without the presenting sponsor CBRE. Special thanks to the association sponsor and plant-based energy drink OCA, together with to all supporting partners including Royale International, Action X Store, Watsons Water, Del Monte, Fitz, C3fit, St Johns, Around DB, Life on Lantau, New Life Plastics, Action Asia Sports Academy and Ocean Recovery Alliance. Lastly and very grateful to all the staff, marshals and volunteers who wake up so early to make it the event.
