Fast guns, corporates, novices hit wellness journey at Hysan Island Hike & Run
Hong Kong - Nov 24, 2024 – Corporate first timers, children out running their parents, youth teams, teenagers too speedy elites was who showed up at this year’s Hysan Island Hike & Run in Happy Valley, Hong Kong.
Hong Kong’s Wong 黃Ho Chung 浩聰 (NNormal) was happy grabbing the overall 23km (shortened to 20.5km due to Boa Vista Road construction) with great weather and a cheerleader squad of youth behind him.
“Happy with the weather, tough fast short course as wasn’t easy, but so happy with the youth team that did so well today in the 6km category as so proud of them. They were so excited to run this Hysan race. Great to see youth moving in a positive direction and good turnout today with over 400” said overall Men’s winner Wong 黃Ho Chung 浩聰 of the 23km category hitting the finish tape in 1 hour 57 minutes 05 seconds.
Dong 董Chaoling 朝玲 (China) put the hammer down on the Women’s field coming home in 2 hours 31 minutes 33 seconds. “The weather was cool and great for this short fast course as loved it, but the hills were not easy as had to focus. Great organization with so many staff and thanks for the food and drinks at all the checkpoints and finish said Chaoling 朝玲.
Second across the line in the Men’s 23km was Hong Kong’s Chan 陳Cheuk Hang 棹恒 coming home in 2 hours 4 minutes 24 seconds. “The weather was great and slight rain and cool which helped on the hills. Very happy with 2nd and look forward to the next Action Asia race” said Chan.
Third in the Men’s 23km was Hong Kong’s Yick 易Glen 健豪 of the Peak Hunter Team. “We’ve been training hard with Peak Hunter and really happy with 3rd as the distance was only just over 20km, but it was quite tough with some very steep hills (The Twins, Mt Butler, Jardine Lookout) as had to push myself to keep up the pace to not lose my position. So happy for others on my team doing well today said Yick who finished 3rd overall in 2 hours 9 minutes 37 seconds.
In the Women's 23km, German national Judith Buil grabbed 2nd overall in 2 hours 51 minutes 26 seconds just 2 seconds in front of Australia’s Natasha Margolis. “Great day with great organization as lots of marshals on course, enjoyed that as a nice fast finish” said Buil who took home 2nd overall in Women’s 23km.
“I really liked the course, it wasn’t as hard as I expected, great weather and the sprint finish at the end was really fun” said Margolis taking 3rd overall in the Women’s 23km finishing in 2:51:28.
For Hysan it’s the concept of promoting healthy living through running in some of Hong Kong's most scenic trails. As a part of Hysan’s wider commitment to giving back to the community, the Company and Action Asia Events are proud to promote wellness and sustainability through this premier hiking and running event every year. Routes for the 6km & 15km remained unchanged, but the 23km distance was slightly shortened to 20.5km due to construction on the Boa Vista track in Tai Tam country park with beautiful scenery and different levels of challenges.
Action Asia Events Director Michael Maddess was extremely happy with the feedback and believes more youth will engage in the outdoors of Hong Kong. “Encouraging seeing so many smiles on young faces together with numerous novices taking to the outdoors for the first time. It shows how important the wellness journey is for so many and equally impressive with the seeds being planted to the young generation relishing the outdoors. As with corporates sending staff for the very first time as many said they loved the experience and will be back which is always encouraging. Couldn’t have created this without the fantastic support of Hysan making this Island Hike & Run a great success. Look forward to the 2025 edition and welcoming even more in all distances”.
The Hysan Island Hike & Run started and finished at Green Lane Park, Upper Happy Valley area of Hong Kong Island with the 23km (20.5km) covering 1016m elevation gain with a maximum height of 422m, while the 15km category has around 688m elevation gain with a maximum height of 422m while the 6Km that goes over Violet Hill and covers close 378m elevation gain with a max elevation of 436m.
The Hysan Island Hike & Run was organized by Action Asia Events and could not have happened without the kind support of Hysan Properties, Lee Gardens, SIS gels, Gwei-lo beer, Neon Tiger fruit drink, French International School, BIX recovery, Royale International, Action X Store, Watsons water, Street Value, drink, St Johns Ambulance and Action Asia Sports Academy.
