Mud, ropes and technical – Hong Kong runners sweep top positions at Action Asia X-Trail Maokong Taiwan
March 8, 2025 – Taipei – March 8, 2025 – Taipei – Continuous rain all week in Taipei on a technical Action Asia X-Trail Maokong trail running course added excitement, nervousness and plenty of slippery mud sections to push many outside their comfort zones with Hong Kong runners Harmony Lam 林Cho Yu 楚茹 and Rex 樂賢 Lo 羅 of the TPH Elite Team taking first place overall in the 26km hardest technical course.
"After participating in today’s Action Asia X-Trail Maokong, I was really, tired after 10km into the race because it was very slippery and was using all my muscles which got very sore and was thankful that the course was only 26km. It was a very good race. The marking was excellent. I didn’t train well in Hong Kong for such a technical course so very happy with my result.” Said overall Women’s 26km winner Harmony Lam 林Cho Yu 楚茹 of the TPH Elite Team who finished in 3 hours 15 minutes 8 seconds.
“My name is Vaness Wang. Very happy at participating in the Action Asia X-Trail Maokong as was so much fun and exciting and will highly recommend this race to all my friends as so well organized and excellent marking along the course as such a great experience on such fun trails that you don’t see much in Taiwan” said Women’s overall 2nd place Wang 王Chia Chieh 家杰 from Taipei finishing in 2 hours 58 minutes 5 seconds.
“Hello I’m Kimmy. Today I’m in Taiwan for the Action Asia X-Trail and the course was clearly marked, didn’t get lost and after the past few days of heavy rain, the course was a bit slippery, but the course was very fun with some technical up and downhill sections, some places crossing rivers and it is a very fun trail race and recommend everyone to come next year for this experience in Taipei” said Women’s 3rd place overall Kimmy Leung 梁 Hong Kiu 康翹 from Hong Kong (The North Face HK Team) who finished in 3 hours 57 minutes 18 seconds.
“Today the weather was so good, a little cold, little rain and good for running. The trails were quite slippery, the whole course was very technical, so I used more time than normal to finish the race, but overall I loved the course as great experience seeing so much going thru farms, rivers, and mountains,” said Men’s 26km overall winner Rex 樂賢 Lo 羅 of the TPH Elite Team who finished in 2 hours 40 minutes 36 seconds.
“The trail was very muddy, but very beautiful as so much fun racing in this kind of environment. Elevation was fairly smooth so I could run most of it. The course marking was really good as so clear which really helped me. Great competition and well done organizing such a good competition” said Wang 王Chia Chieh 家杰 from Taipei after taking 2nd overall in the Men’s 26km in 2 hours 58 minutes 5 seconds.
“Very happy grabbing 3rd place. It was an amazing race. As usual for many races in Taiwan, lots of mud with slippery trails, but when I see that I just let my legs go and don’t think about it as always incredible for me to run in Maokong. There are two peaks in this Action Asia race to climb with Er Ger Shan and Hou Shan (Monkey mountain) and they are both very fun to climb up and down. I did this Action Asia race 5 yrs ago and improved my experience and definitely will do this race again. Cherio and thanks so much again for organizing such an awesome competition” said 3rd place Men’s overall in the 26km Giacomo Savoldi from Italy finishing in 3 hours and 52 seconds.
The Taiwan Action Asia 26km course (reduced to 25.5km after small change) started off at the Muzha Chi Nan Gong Main Temple upper parking lot (272m) – climbed Maokong Yuan Shan (509m) thru the Tea Farms, Maokong Zhanghu Trail, over ErGer Shan (678m), down to Arou Yang Mtn Rd (467m) for the water food checkpoint before climbing the ridges of HoushanMtn (530m) and going thru local farms and single track trails back to the Muzha Chi Nan Gong Temple for one incredible Action Asia X-Trail Maokong experience in Taipei.
